A Very Rare Irish 19th Century Armchair Attributed to 'Butlers' of Dublin

About the Item

A very rare Irish 19th Century well figured mahogany armchair attributed to 'Butlers' of Dublin. This stunning piece is of exceptional quality, finely hand carved with beautifully rich patination and grain. The bow shaped top rail with scroll and foliate motifs is raised over a pierced back splat with acanthus detail above outswept curved and pierced arms with richly scrolling acanthus leaves throughout and curved supports. Raised above a drop-in padded seat upholstered in a rich hand woven tapestry with a fabulous cartouche to the central reserve depicting a landscape scene of a tree with birds and flowers set within a gorgeous foliate and flower head border in delicate hues of green, golds, pinks, blues and reds against a deep burgundy ground. The simple apron is supported on outswept legs to the rear and elegantly tapering cabriole legs to the fore with acanthus leaves on knee, terminating on a finely carved claw and ball foot.
