Antique Spanish Colonial Oak Leather Bench Country House Studded Brass Baronial

About the Item

An extremely impressive, strikingly attractive and very rare Spanish oak and studded leather bench in good antique condition. Most likely made around 1890 in Spain in the Spanish Colonial style, this gorgeous bench is packed with quality and exudes a powerful yet refined, classical aesthetic. This wonderful and highly usable statement piece will enhance any interior with its superb craftsmanship, lovely rich colouring and commanding, stately elegance. A good size, well-proportioned and reassuringly heavy, it was expertly crafted from beautiful quality solid tiger oak. Upholstered in the original padded leather to the seat and backrest, it is beautifully finished with wonderfully eye-catching embellishments of lion-head finials and patterned brass studding. Very comfortable and spacious, this is a genuine antique head-turner, meticulously crafted by Spanish artisans. The superb and intricately-turned lower-frame includes a rare pair of central legs for extra support and the substantial ‘double-H’ stretcher matches the wonderfully turned legs. The impressive arms have hooked hand-rests and atop the bench are a pair of intricately carved lion-head finials. Last but certainly not least is the gorgeous quality and aged appeal of the original padded leather upholstery and the striking brass studding. Everything about this bench is a joy. Made in the traditional 16th century Spanish Colonial style, this fabulous bench wouldn't look out of place in the most awe-inspiring of old-world banqueting halls with its wonderfully rustic-yet-grand Neoclassical styling. All in all this is an extremely rare and hugely impressive antique bench, which will be a knockout in any setting with its authentic old-world aesthetic. CONDITION This is in good antique condition. Wonderfully constructed by master craftsmen and built to last, it is structurally sound and surprisingly very comfortable. The only flaws are minor to-be-expected marks and knocks to the frame and extensive wear and aged appeal to the fabulously patinated original leather upholstery, which has been treated for good measure. Overall it's a stunning and extremely captivating antique bench and if well looked after it should be just as magnificent in another 130+ years - please see the photos. 18th Century Spanish Colonial Bench
Located in Rio De Janeiro, BR
18th Century Spanish Colonial Bench A rare and highly evocative mid 18th-century Spanish Colonial bench, crafted entirely in solid hardwood, likely native to the Americas, displaying the unmistakable synthesis of Iberian baroque influences and vernacular craftsmanship typical of colonial furniture. This bench stands out for its sculptural silhouette, featuring a high backrest and apron, both adorned with a rhythmic sequence of arched scalloped patterns, known in period terminology as perfiles lobulados. This decorative motif, rooted in both Moorish and Spanish medieval designs, was commonly adapted by colonial artisans throughout the Viceroyalties. The bench retains its original joinery and pegged construction, a testament to its authenticity and structural integrity. The slightly canted backrest, crowned by finial posts, offers both aesthetic charm and ergonomic comfort, making it suitable for both domestic and ecclesiastical settings. The aged patina, with rich oxidation and wear consistent with centuries of use, enhances its historical character without compromising stability. The robust seat, also original, rests securely above the elegantly shaped skirt, whose pronounced lobes lend movement and visual rhythm to the piece. This is not merely a utilitarian bench but an embodiment of the colonial spirit — practical yet imbued with artistry. Ideal for collectors, decorators, or institutions seeking an authentic representation of 18th-century Spanish Colonial design. Its simplicity, combined with the boldness of its cutouts, makes it versatile enough to grace a rustic hacienda...
