Antique English 17th Century King Charles II Carved Oak Settle Sofa Bench 1680

About the Item

A very fine antique King Charles II, English Restoraion Period carved oak settle, England, Circa 1680. This settle is from the period of the Restoration of the English monarchy under the House of Stuart monarchy, after the English Civil War. The settle having a three paneled back with original period carving, the top rail is carved with a frieze of stylized pinwheel devices, which also intersect each panel. Each panel is deeply cared with stylised flowers and leaves, the settle having twin arms with upholstered armrests, the settle is raised on turned legs joined with a stretcher at each end. The settle has just been professionally re-upholstered to a very high standard with a high quality golden gray velvet fabric. Condition is very good indeed, the settle has a wonderful dark rich color developed over almost 350 years, a wonderful settle from the late 1600's. Provenance; The settle was acquired from a fine 17th century period hall in Derbyshire, England.
