ANTIQUE HAND CARVED ENGLISH 1880 VICTORiAN COCK FIGHTING METAMORPHIC ARMCHAIR

Royal House Antiques Royal House Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this important, handmade made in England, circa 1860-1880 Victorian ornately hand carved English Oak Cockfighting armchair with reading slope and large single drawer Please note the delivery fee listed is just a guide, it covers within the M25 only for the UK and local Europe only for international, if you would like an accurate quote please send me your postcode and I’ll provide you with the exact price This really is an exquisite armchair, it is pure art furniture from every angle, the design originates from the 18th century, they are documented as being use in cockfights as you could sit backwards on the chair and have a fully body arm rest which you could use to write on and so forth, this of course was the original intended function which was for study This chair swivels, it has its original porcelain castors, the back opens up to reveal a writing slope or lectern for resting a book which can be used folded or unfolded, lastly you have one large drawer to the base Condition wise, the chair has been lightly restored to include a deep clean, hand condition wax and hand polish, its an original patina chair meaning all the period charm has been left in, the upholstery looks to be Edwardian Rexene, I have left it as it is because its in wonderful period condition Should the new owner wish, I can have the piece upholstered with Italian cattle hide leather and hand dyed, I had one other example of these chairs which was restored to that standard and sold very quickly, if you would like to see some pictures please ask, the cost of the work is approximately £1500 Dimensions Height:- 80cm Width:- 70cm Depth:- 64cm Seat height:- 55cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point, if you would like any additional or specific measurements please ask Any questions please feel free to ask before you bid Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
