About the Item

Calder's Chair, limited edition by Gabriela Campos Edition 2 of 8 Dimensions: 25,59 x 17,72 x 35.43 in Materials: Structure in Stainless Steel and Composition of Marble Verde Alpi, Marrom Imperador, Yellow and Red Quartz A visual and conceptual connection to the work of Alexander Calder, especially his mobiles and stabiles — kinetic sculptures that explore balance, movement, and spatial composition in a playful yet sophisticated manner. One of the most important American sculptors of the 20th century, Calder is best known for his kinetic sculptures, animated by air currents, colorful mobiles, and monumental abstract forms. The chair’s thin, curved metal structure directly references the lightness of Calder’s rods, which support geometric shapes in seemingly improbable balance. The arched curvature of the backrest, with spheres at each end, echoes the suspended gesture of his mobiles — suggesting motion even in stillness. Much like Calder’s sculptures, this chair appears to float, balancing mass and form in quiet defiance of gravity. The use of primary shapes — circles, spheres, curved lines — is another clear nod to Calder’s visual language. Here, they appear as both sculptural and functional elements: the circular green marble backrest, the round seat, the colorful spheres as armrests. Each form carries both a formal and symbolic role, just as in Calder’s work, where every element has a visual weight and balancing function. Its aesthetic is defined by lightness and movement with a sense of playful innovation. This piece is a functional and poetic tribute to the master of movement and suspended form.
