Göran Malmvall pine chair 510 by Karl Andersson & Söner, Sweden, 1940s

About the Item

Swedish side chair, Model 510, designed by Göran Malmvall for the manufacturer Karl Andersson & Söner, Huskvarna. Originating from the late 1940s, it is a late example of the "sportstugemöbler" (sport lodge furniture) style, popularized in the 1920s by architects like Axel-Einar Hjorth. Crafted from pine, it features a solid seat shaped to accommodate the human body. Karl Andersson & Söner, established in 1944 by Karl Andersson and his four sons in Huskvarna, gained recognition for their rustic pinewood furniture. Göran Malmvall, an active designer in the company until his death in 1982, contributed significantly to their designs. The company, renowned for collaborations with architects like Carl Malmsten and later Børge Mogensen, continues to be successful today.
