Rare 'Soloform 5008' Chaise Longue by Hans Hartl for Eugen Schmidt Germany, 1953

About the Item

Beautifully restored Hans Hartl, chaise longue “Soloform 5008,” Eugen Schmidt, Darmstadt, Germany, 1953. Very rare and beautiful Avant Garde freeform chaise longue produced in very few numbers. This is one of the few post WWII designs produced by Hartl and exemplifies the link between art and design during this progressive period. Hartl was a high profile architect, decorator and furniture designer during the late 1920s-1930s period whose works were published alongside those of greats such as Josef Hoffmann, Le Corbusier, Mendelsson, Pier Luigi Nervi, Breuer and Bruno Paul amongst others. One quote “Hans Hartl’s Arbeitszimmer study is a brilliant fusion of modern set in a soaring almost medieval space. This 'Soloform' chaise has been professionally restored as it was made almost 66 years back, it has been completely stripped down bare bone, you can see the restoration process in the last 9 pictures in this listing The Pirelli rubber strapping was still in good condition and we left this as original, new coconut fiber was used and finished off with natural Latex foam We used 100% Merino lambs wool upholstery to create a warm inviting and comfortable chaise longue The chrome base has been polished and shows areas of chrome loss and light pitting constant with age and use, we left this as it is to show the authenticity and vintage character of this unique piece.
