About the Item

We normally do not deal with items produced in the last 20 to 30 years, however this pair of leather and chromed steel art deco style club chairs are extremely high quality and have amazing style. They are quite heavy - and weight is a great indicator of quality materials. Both from the thick steel used, and the thick leather hides combined with the large size. The style of these leather lounge chairs are similar to Le Corbusier's 'LC2 and LC3' chairs for Cassina. The 'basket of cushions' provide considerable comfort, along with the grand scale of these chairs, they are ideal for lounging, entertaining and relaxation. These chairs are exceptionally impressive, for you and especially your guests. Provenance was from a Beverly Hills estate. This pair of art deco style club chairs would complement various locations such as a living room, den, family room, games room man (or woman!) cave or office space. This would also be perfect in a hospitality or corporate location, such as; a boutique hotel lobby, cocktail bar, members club, workspace studio, executive office, meeting room, or in a luxe clothing emporium. Consider using in a Mid-Century Modern or Postmodern home, also consider for a traditional, classical or contemporary home or office. Consider using as a side chair, cafe or breakfast table chair, bedside chair, fireside chair, dressing or changing room chair, hallway chair, entryway or mudroom chair, nursing or reading chair, conference room chair, office or desk guest chair, lobby chair, or occasional chair ideal in virtually any setting. Pair of Club Chairs by Claudio Salocchi for Sormani Italy, c 1970, Signed
By Sormani, Claudio Salocchi
Located in Los Angeles, CA
This newly reupholstered pair of club chairs by Claudio Salocchi for Sormani, circa 1970s, features graceful chrome frames with nubby white bouclé fabric. Signed with 1960s/ 1970s Sormani label as shown in photo gallery. *Note, we have the matching sofa available in another listing. The graceful frames share a design quality with Cassina's LC2 / LC3 design by Le Corbusier, as they are 'buckets of cushions' in similar fashion and comfort. However these Sormani lounge chairs feature some unique subtle details, such as the slight "twist" in the rear legs (see photos). Signed with a Sormani label, this particular rare design is attributed to Claudio Salocchi. While there were several other famous designers who created works for Sormani in this time period, the style best matches Salocchi's work. For collectors looking for something unique and rare within a collection of 1960s/ 1970s Italian designs, this pair of easy chairs are an amazing opportunity. These Cassina LC2 / LC3 style chairs...

Maison Jansen Attributed Leather and Gilt Regency Armchairs, Restored, c. 1940s
By Maison Jansen
Located in Los Angeles, CA
An intriguing set of restored armchairs, which are confirmed to be from the 1940s and earlier. The question is - how much earlier? Crafted in the Regency style, this set of Ebonized and Gilt frames chairs feature gold colored leather seats and a charismatic silhouette with a lot of interesting artistic details. *NOTE* We have eight available, they are priced as pairs. The chairs are signed with Mid-Century era upholstery tags and a business card for an antiques restorer. The business card is of a 1940s style and the address used is the style of address used between 1943 and 1963 which is before ZIP codes were used but after the implementation of the 2 digit Postal Code system. What is currently unknown is whether Fred H. Mehrhoff reproduced these chairs in that time or if he had restored them. Generally speaking, antique restorers did much more restoring than they did reproducing. Reproductions were mostly private commissions from local clientele. We found a 1935 newspaper directory with Fred H. Mehrhoff listed as a cabinetmaker in Ohio, which further supports his career as an antiques restoration specialist. Again, the question is whether he crafted these chairs in the 1940s or possibly 1950s, or if he restored them and they are much older - perhaps of the Regency period (early 1800s). If he restored these in the 1940s, which we are inclined to believe, they are likely an important set and from an important maker or design house, such as Maison Jansen. These have the aesthetic style and taste of Maison Jansen, and we definitely would not be surprised to learn these were used in a Jansen interior project at some point in the late 1800s to early 1900s. These Maison Jansen attributed armchairs would work great in a French Neoclassical, Classical, Art Deco, or Hollywood Regency home. Also consider mixing it up in a Post-Modern, Mid-Century Modern, Contemporary, Space Age Mod, Scandanavian Modern, Danish Modern or Zen / Minimalist room as a splash of juxtaposition. Can be used as dining captains or side chairs, hall chairs, desk or guest chairs, lobby lounge chairs, feeding chair...
