They carry an ICONIC Reputation, possess euphoric comfort, and they’re SCREAMING with glorious Postmodern style & design. This is EXACTLY the pair of lounge or club chairs you’ve been looking for!! Martin/Brattrud was founded in 1946 by Frank Martin and Robert “Bob” Brattrud. They began as a modest frame shop in the South Bay area of Los Angeles. The company grew quickly and by 1950 they became recognized as one of the region’s most reputable manufacturers of upholstered furniture. Some of the most iconic designers and architects relied on Martin Brattrud to produce their work including John Lautner, Arthur Elrod, Greta Magnusson Grossman, Steve Chase, and Milo Baughman to name a few. From 1955-1958 they designed Jackie Cooper & Pat Breslin’s furniture on the set of “The People’s Choice,” Robert Brattud retired in 1977 and Allan G. Stratford purchased and became president of Martin Brattrud. The company moved to a larger facility in Gardena in 1982 and they began creating more diverse furnishings for corporate offices, restaurants, hotels, & sports & entertainment facilities. In 1995 the “Think Fast Lounge Chair” was introduced making its debut at The Pacific Design Center and within 5 months became a best-seller and remained their best-selling chair for five years. In 1999 Martin/Brattrud upholstered seating for Nickelodeon Corporate Headquarters and in 2007 they created a custom banquette seating for the Player’s Lounge, Champagne Bar, and the VIP Terrace located in the Dallas Cowboys AT&T Stadium. They are in business today and lead the company with unique designs, have earned a well-respected reputation, and retain partnerships with some of the most accomplished designers in the industry. Vintage Mid-Century Modern Club Lounge Chair by Flair Division for Bernhardt
By Bernhardt
Located in Topeka, KS
Handsome Mid-Century Modern club chair or lounge chair from the Flair Division of Bernhardt Furniture. It is in wonderful vintage condition and wearing its original light turquoise blue nubby fabric. It has been professionally cleaned but the fabric does have fading as you would expect and there are still stains but no holes or tears. It will be at its best recovered. It is priced accordingly. Please see photos, circa 1960s. I must tell you when we walked into the home where we obtained this chair and many of our other recent and soon to be offerings, I thought if I was ever going to faint this is the time. Of course, the house itself blew me away and then……the original furniture and art in all its glory. This chair is part of a three-piece living room suite by Bernhardt Furniture Flair Division and we are offering all three pieces this week. This club chair with its Lawson styling and loose cushions is really comfy; plus, it is held up off the floor with a fabulous base. The base or legs are comprised of a pair of walnut planks turned upright and running from front to back on each side of the chair. Simple yet dynamic. Bernhardt Furniture was established in 1889 by John Mathias Bernhardt and has been going strong for over 125 years. He spent many years out west in Oregon Territory. After a serious illness, traveling back home to Lenoir, North Carolina and working as a logger in the densely forested foothills of Grandfather Mountain...
