Dining Chairs in Niger Leather and Mahogany by Danish Cabinetmaker

About the Item

Attributed to Andreas Jeppe Iversen (A.J. Iversen), dining chairs, Niger leather, mahogany, brass, Denmark, 1925/1935 An elegant piece of furniture crafted between 1925 and 1935, reflecting the design principles that were prevalent during that period of time. The chair shows strong similarities with the 'Red Chair', an iconic design conceived by the father of Danish Modern Design, Kaare Klint. According to the provenance, which can be acquired upon request, these chairs could be a design by the Danish master Andreas Jeppe Iversen. This model features a slender profile with subtle, yet visually interesting detailing, such as the rear curved legs with upward-pointing corners and the brass nails that beautifully decorate the leather. A chair that blends fine craftsmanship with a sophisticated sensibility in a harmonious way. Please note that the leather is in patinated condition with visible signs of age and use. The framework exhibits some scratches. Restoration is possible before shipping by our experienced craftspeople in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come. We kindly ask you to contact our design experts for further information about the endless possibilities our restoration and upholstery atelier has to offer. Of course, a locally organized restoration is possible as well. The listed price is per item.

Jacob Kjaer Rare Set of Ten Dining Chairs in Mahogany and Niger Leather
By Jacob Kjaer
Located in Waalwijk, NL
Jabob Kjær for Jacob Kjær Møbelhaandværk, dining chairs, niger leather, cuban mahogany, brass rivets, Denmark, 1937. Stunning set of dining chairs by Jacob Kjær manufactured in 1937. The Danish designer Jacob Kjær created this particular model for the Paris World Fair in 1937. The strong, elegant form of the geometrical backrest with spindles, all executed in the finest Cuban mahogany is absolutely striking. Lightness is created through the slim proportions of the frame which is executed in mahogany. Together with the original cognac niger leather with admirable patina this set of dining chairs is visually striking. A nice decorative touch are the brass rivets on the side of each seating. Jacob Kjaer (1896-1957) started working as a furniture designer in 1915. From 1918-20 he studied at the Institute of Arts and Crafts Museum in Berlin, then worked in Paris and returned to Copenhagen in 1926. Here, he opened his own workshop. His highly skilled craftsmanship and designs got honored with the Hand Work Medal in 1954. These items are in good, used condition and show patina and signs of wear and use common for pieces this age. The mahogany type of this piece does not require an export license. Please note that we have a total of sixteen chairs...

Jacob Kjaer set of 6 dining chairs Oak and original Niger leather, 1930's
By Jacob Kjaer
Located in Uccle, BE
Set of 6 Oak chairs with original patinated Niger leather. Jacob Kjær (1896–1957) was a Danish furniture designer and cabinetmaker. Kjær received training as a cabinetmaker in the workshop of his father who was also a furniture maker. After completing his training in Berlin and Paris, he exhibited works at the Barcelona World Exhibition in 1929. Characterized by simplicity, his designs drew on the finest materials which, unusually for his day, he crafted himself. Inspired by classical English Style, his clean, graceful designs are modern in interpretation. He did much to enhance the reputation of the Danish furniture industry as president of the Cabinetmakers Guild from 1952 to 1957 and of the Arts and Crafts Committee for Exports from 1944 to 1957. One of his most notable works is the FN Chair...
