About the Item

Stunning vintage Mid-Century Modern Foster-McDavid dining chairs set of 4 comprised of walnut frames and the original cobalt blue faux leather upholstery. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. All chairs have been reconditioned and re-stained. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, 1960’s. A FABULOUS quartet of quintessential Mid-Century Modern magnificence!!! WOW!! This is a set of four vintage dining chairs by Foster-McDavid comprised of gorgeous walnut frames and the original cobalt blue faux Naugahyde leather upholstery on the seats and backs. They have high tapered backs with a wonderfully unusual design as the fabric wraps over the top and extends about a quarter of the way down the walnut back… it’s really a stunning feature! Also, the straight, square tapered back legs extend about a quarter of the way up the lower back of the chairs as one piece… also a stunning feature!! We found a quote online from Robert Foster’s son, Robert Foster Jr stating that this design may be Spectrum or Intaglio however, we were unable to confirm that information. There are other styles of these dining chairs, but this particular style was not produced in the quantity as the others, so these are rarer. They are going to look incredible at your Mid-Century Modern dining table, game table, or breakfast nook (we have several listed here for sale that would pair wonderfully, check them out!) Foster-McDavid was a Tampa furniture company started in the early 1950’s by Robert Foster and Joe McDavid. According to online posts by Foster’s son Robert Foster Jr, Joe McDavid ran the company and Robert Foster designed the furniture. Apparently, Herbert Saiger designed some pieces as well. They had showrooms in High Point and Miami where they sold to interior designers and retailers. The company was sold in 1975. High quality, reputable designer & manufacturer, impeccable style, and brilliant-ly blue!! This set of 4 dining chairs by Foster-McDavid have it ALL!!! Don’t wait! Make them YOURS!!! Vintage MCM Chrome & Royal Blue Fabric Armchairs by Hibriten Chair Company
By Hibriten
Located in Topeka, KS
Stunning pair of vintage Mid-Century Modern royal blue and chrome armchairs by Hibriten Chair Company. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that these are vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. The chrome has no pitting that we have seen, and the fabric shows hardly any sign of use. There may be slight fading, but it is overall and so… not noticeable. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, 1960’s Bold, beautiful, and royal blue!!! This is a gorgeous pair of vintage armchairs by Hibriten Chair Company. They are constructed of square chrome tube frames and wear a lovely royal blue fabric on their seat and back. They’re just BEAUTIFUL!! They would be wonderful used as side chairs in your living room, family room, bedroom, study, or as host and Hostess chairs at either end of your Mid-Century Modern dining table. They are very versatile and have that pop of color you have been needing in that dull space. Regardless of where you choose to use them, they are sure to be eye-catching, comfortable, and full of Mid-Century Modern style. Hibriten actually had 2 companies- Hibriten Furniture Co, and Hibriten Chair Co. Both located in Lenoir, N. C. Hibriten Furniture was founded in the 1920’s by Orrin Robbins and Hibriten Chair Co. was founded a few years later by Robey Robbins. Hibriten Chair Co. was well known for its extremely high quality of solid mahogany or walnut French reproductions and other styles of furniture. Hibriten became a part of Bernhardt Furniture in the 1950-1960’s with their president George C. Robbins and was eventually purchased by Bernhardt sometime in the early 1970’s. A fun fact… The furniture on the set of the popular 1965-1971 television show “Green Acres...

MCM Grand Haven Chair by Jack Van der Molen for Jamestown Lounge in Blue Fabric
By Jamestown Lounge Company, Jack Van der Molen
Located in Topeka, KS
Gorgeous Mid-Century Modern Grand Haven dining or accent chair designed by Jack Van Der Molen for Jamestown Lounge Company. Beautiful vintage condition. We had the foam replaced in the original cushion, but it still wears its original blue hopsack fabric. We have deep cleaned the fabric but there are still hints of staining. Hard to find but it is there. I would not be afraid to use it however. The original webbing has been replaced and the wood has been restored to its original glory. However, you may still find small imperfections as it is a vintage piece. Please see photos, circa 1950s-1960s Roses are red, violets are blue, and so is this awesome Grand Haven chair we have to offer you!!! We have a vintage ad that denotes these as “the famous Grand Haven chair, winner of the coveted House Beautiful Classic Award given for exceptional value in design, construction and comfort.” That couldn’t be more accurate! Besides the obvious beauty, this chair is super comfortable and ready to grace your mid-century modern home with its bold presence. It wears its original blue “hopsack” fabric, and we had the foam replaced in the original cushion, so it is closer to its original condition. This would be a wonderful accent chair to have in your entry way for sitting as you remove your shoes or a king chair at your dining table. Wherever you choose to put it, this chair is sure to be your new conversation piece. Jack Van der Molen is an award-winning gifted American designer of the mid-20th century. He was born in 1922 and is a man of many accomplishment and talents. He was awarded five Battle Stars for his actions during WWII, is a fabulous golfer winning many tournaments, and an excellent watercolorist with work in private and commercial collections. He was educated at Kendall School Design in Grand Rapids. His furniture design work successfully combines organic details with clean lines. He designed several lines of furniture for Jamestown Lounge Co. including “Americana Casual”. He even won the coveted House Beautiful Magazine “Best Chair of the Year” award for his “Grand Haven” chair for Jamestown in 1959. In addition, he collaborated with Dupont initiating use of polyester fiber in upholstered furniture. His 61 years designing for top manufacturers is celebrated by how desirable and sought after his designs are today. Jamestown Lounge Company of Jamestown, New York was founded in 1888 by four partners. They first manufactured, obviously from their name, only lounges. These were long armless, backless, upholstered pieces with a hard roll at one end…what my mother always called a “fainting couch”. They soon added other box couches and convertible sofa beds leading into full manufacturing of all kinds of case and upholstered goods. They are famous for their Feudal Oak...

Broyhill Brasilia Dining Chairs Original Set of 10 Mid-Century Modern, 1962-1970
By Broyhill Brasilia
Located in Topeka, KS
Iconic Mid-Century Modern Broyhill Brasilia original set of 10 dining chairs, 2 arm and 8 sides. Dark walnut and new dark blue/black upholstery. In fabulous vintage condition apart from one side chair that had a broken back rail that has been repaired by our experienced staff. Please see photos, circa 1962-1970. Their iconic sculpted design inspired by Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer is extremely desirable and sought after. Finding an original set of ten is rare! They have been re-upholstered in a fabric that is an ongoing debate here as to whether it is blue or black. Depending on the light some of us say blue and some say black, but either way, they are absolutely stunning. They are comprised of deep sultry walnut and the backs of the chairs bear the elegant triple Brasilia arches. Their high backs, tapered legs and sturdy frame unify their comfort. These will be wonderful encompassing any dining room table. The Brasilia Collection is Mid-Century Modern in style but borders on Brutalist although it would be beautiful in an Industrial or modern country setting as well. It is no coincidence that The Brasilia collection design is very architectural in style. It was introduced to the public at the Seattle World’s Fair in 1962 and drew its inspiration from the architecture of the newly created and majestic Capital of Brazil, Brasilia. The brochure for Brasilia by Broyhill Premier says…….”Brasilia…the city…by its daring and beauty has revolutionized architecture and opened vast new horizons of design. From this inspired dream, Broyhill Premier drew inspiration for the furniture grouping which bears the Fine young name: BRASILIA.” This line was extremely popular with the furniture buying public and is still sought out today. Broyhill ended production of this successful line sometime in the 1970s...
