About the Item

An elegant set of two "Chiavarine" high back chairs produced in the 1960s by one of the most versatile and brilliant cabinetmakers in Chiavari, Felice Sabbadini. Crafted with beech wood and woven cane, these chairs are not only stylish but also incredibly lightweight, weighing only 2.800kg each. Chiavari is renowned for its furniture, and the "Campanino" chair, designed in 1807 by Giuseppe Gaetano Descalzi, is one of its most iconic pieces. The chair was initially created on the request of Marquis Stefano Rivarola, who sought a modern and lightweight chair for his estate. Its success was immediate and long-lasting, as the chair continues to be produced to this day. Gio Ponti, one of the most celebrated Italian architects and designers, was inspired by the Chiavarine's light and sturdy construction in the creation of two of his masterpieces: the Leggera chair in the early 1950s and the Superleggera chair in 1958. These Chiavarine chairs have completely restored frames, and their seats feature new hand-knotted woven cane, created with ancient techniques that have been preserved in Chiavari. This is a testament to the dedication and craftsmanship of the artisans who work in Chiavari, and it ensures that these chairs are ready to last for years to come. As an establishment located in Chiavari, we are proud to have an in-house caning workshop that operates following the ancient techniques of the region, and we are delighted to offer these stunning chairs to your attention.
