About the Item
A beatiful pair of "Chiavarine" high back chairs, expertly crafted in the 1960s in Chiavari - a town renowned for its chair production since the early 19th century. Made with beech wood french polished in a mahogany colour and hand-woven cane, these chairs are not only elegant but also remarkably lightweight, weighing less than 3,00kg each.
The inspiration behind the Chiavarine design has had a significant impact on the world of design, including the renowned Italian architect and designer Gio Ponti. His Leggera chair in the early 1950s and the Superleggera chair in 1958 were both influenced by the Chiavarine's sturdy yet lightweight construction.
Our skilled artisans have painstakingly restored the frames of these Chiavarine chairs, and the seats feature new hand-knotted woven cane, which has been created using ancient techniques that have been preserved in Chiavari. This is a testament to the dedication and craftsmanship of the artisans who work in Chiavari, ensuring that these chairs will last for years to come.
