Made by Josef Ulrich Danhauser /Signed (origin / Provenance proved) * !

Vienna / Austria, made circa 1815

* These pieces of furniture had formerly been in possession of Thomas Dolezal / Vienna. They were published by Christian Witt-Dörring / Jean Hopkinson, 'A Group of Early Seat Furniture with Composition Decoration, from the Danhauser Furniture Factory', Furniture History, Vol.29 (1993), pp. 147-160. - Result of referring investigations is a strong stylistical connection with a set kept nowadays at National Museum in Krakow (Poland) - correlating with the set presented here: Witt-Dörring made a draft on the set offered here in order to prove the "Krakow-set's" provenance from Danhauser Furniture Factory since the latter isn't signed whereas the set offered here is wearing the DANHAUSER FACTORY's PLAQUE. Beyond that, it is known that J.U.Danhauser had specialized in manufacturing moulded mounts in order to embellish the furniture pieces / on 16 January 1811 he submitted an application to the so-said 'Stadthauptmannschaft' (= Town's Captain of Vienna) 'exclusive license for a newly-invented composition for the embellishment of furniture', i.e. for using gilded chalk paste for example.

Josef Ulrich Danhauser (1780-1829)
Josef U. Danhauser, having studied the Art of Sculpture at Viennese Academy of Fine Arts, founded a manufactory in Vienna in year 1804 which was called „Etablissement fuer alle Gegenstaende des Ameublements“ (= which means 'Production of all items concerning household furniture'): Danhauser offered furniture pieces, curtains and carpets, upholsteries, bronze as well as glass items there / he had residence at Palais Czernin-Althan where production was made (Danhauser had circa 100 members of staff in year 1808 since his manufactory has become very successful then). Apart from the Imperial Court of Vienna, noble people having had residence, too, in Old Imperial Austria (for example at Viennese Castle of archduke Albrecht, at Weilburg in Baden, at Laxenburg Castle near Vienna, at so-said Geymueller Castle in Vienna or at castle of Graz / capital of Styria) had preference for Danhauser products especially in period as from circa 1808 until 1829 when J.U.Danhauser died. - The manufactory existed until 1838 (Danhauser's son Josef directed manufactory as from 1829 until 1838, but he hasn't had success his father had since Josef Danhauser the Younger was primarily active as painter).
