About the Item

In ancient Greece, the agrippina was the seat normally used by philosophers during lectures and was adopted in the Roman world, where it was called cathedra supina or more simply longa, a term from which the French term chaise longue (long chair) derives. After a long period of oblivion, this type of furniture came back into fashion in France around the 16th century. With the triumph of neoclassical taste, which began at the time of Louis XVI, the chaise longues made at that time underwent certain modifications such as the loss of armrests and the rebalancing of the height of the backs of the two armchairs. While the Restoration recalled the older type of chaise longue, subsequent periods saw a continuous evolution of the product, which became a long-lasting product as it retained a certain popularity even in the second half of the 20th century, thanks to its American variant called the rocking chair. The fact that it is a type of chair that has been much adapted to styles and eras suggests that today it is a very comfortable model for use in the home or in a professional office during breaks.
