About the Item
A beautiful and rare Boho Chic Style hand-woven bamboo and cane rattan chair designed and made by Rohé Noordwolde in the Netherlands in the 1960’s. The chair features a dramatic high arch top and was constructed with integral arms with wonderful dynamic organic curves and shapes. The chair works equally well inside or outoors, and would become a magical place to sit, float and relax away the hours with the addition of blankets, pillows and cushions. Unlike most pieces of furniture which can sometimes crowd or dominate a space, the suspended bamboo and cane chair seemingly floats in a space, with colour, texture and space able to be seen through the body of its construction. The only limitation would be the length of chain you decided to attach to the chair, though we don’t recommend you suspend outside the window of your apartment building if you’re on the 50th floor!
This bamboo & cane Mid-Century Modern hanging chair was produced by Rohé in Noordwolde in the Netherlands. Noordwolde is a town in the north east of Holland which became the heart of the Dutch wicker/rattan/bamboo industry in the 1950's. Specialised craftsmen created gems of wicker and bamboo furniture. In the 1960's the Bamboo and cane industry was flourishing and this iconic chair is a perfect example of the revolutionary, free thinking Bohemian 60's spirit of the This chair is an iconic mid 60's, early 1970’s design representing the revolutionary new free thinking that generated the flower power generation and the 1967 Summer of Love.
Sometimes our restorers have to make good on the mistakes of the past. Our professional Wicker and Cane restorer, replaced the elements of the chair which a previous owner had painted blue. He sympathetically used the correct natural materials, not only servicing and maintained all the structural pieces of the chair, but bringing them back to life with care, attention and craftsmanship. This piece is ready to enhance your space and be beautiful for another 60 years.

He serviced and maintained all canes and bamboo parts of the frame, giving them an overhaul and refinishing. Wear consistent with age and use.
