Early French Mid-Century Modern Folding Lounge Chair by Robert Mallet-Stevens

About the Item

An Early French Mid-Century Modern Folding Chair by the luminary French Modernist Architect, Robert Mallet-Stevens circa 1920-1933. This iconic work of early modernism was multi-functional and expressed the core values of the modern movement, an exquisite form and practical function. Mallet-Stevens believed in the transparency of buildings and objects to achieve his visionary modern efforts. This chair exemplifies that principle with it's open, cross hatched, transparent aesthetic. and it was designed to function indoors and outdoors. Documentation: Stamped with the metal plaque of the cabinetmaker, Pierre Dariel. Additional References: Mallet Stevens strongly influenced the work of other French champions of Modernism: Pierre Jeanneret, Le Corbusier (Charles Edouard Jeanneret), Charlotte Perriand and Jean Prouve. World wide his influence can also be seen in the work of the German Bauhaus designers and the Americans, Ray and Charles Eames and Isamu Noguchi. French Art Deco, Chairs.
