Fritz Neth "Madame" Lounge Chair for Correcta, Germany 1950s

About the Item

Although Fritz Neth was, and still is, one of the most sought-after designers of German post-war modernism, not much is known about him - but his designs speak for themselves. The design language is entirely dedicated to the organic-modern style of the 1950s. Much like in Scandinavia, the mid-century in Germany gave form to furniture pieces defined by quality, functionality, and reliability. The curved seat gives this chair a sculptural and striking appearance. This lounge chair’s rounded lines and stylish selection of materials immediately stand out, and make the classic combination of black and white visually interesting. The body is formed like a nest, with smooth and flowing lines that hug the sitter. The wide seat and armrests are not separated, rather they are united and create an open and welcoming look. The black legs of thin tubular metal are very characteristic of the era. The legs are simplistic, which is a great design choice that contrast with the softness of the upholstery. Thanks to its well-thought-out construction and proportions, the sitting comfort is also outstanding. The classic pairing of black and white further makes this unique model an elegant and stylish addition to any space. Through the design, materials, and degree of craftsmanship, it displays many of the qualities exemplifying why Fritz Neth remains one of the most sought after designers of Germany. This lounge chair was produced by the Correcta Foams Company (Sitzformbau) in Kassel, Germany. Correcta produced Neth’s designs throughout the 1950s. The company used to produce foam rubber shoulder pads, and towards the 1950s, switched to the production of seating with the highest quality of foam. Condition: In good vintage condition. Sculptural Lounge Chairs by Nino Zoncada for Frimar, Italy 1950s
By Nino Zoncada
Located in Utrecht, NL
The postwar boom years of the 1950s through to the 1960s were one of the periods of greatest influence of Italian designers. Design in the 50s paved a way to a more aesthetical approach to products as opposed to its utilitarian predecessors, resulting in exceptional pieces like these lounge chairs. Giovanni “Nino” Zoncada was an Italian furniture designer who worked extensively designing furniture and interiors for luxury ships. In the late 1940s, Zoncada collaborated with Gio Ponti in the interior design of the cruise liners Conte Biancamano and Conte Grande. Among his most famous furniture designs are these iconic and richly upholstered lounge chairs with relatively high and curved armrests. This pair of lounge chairs combines a luxurious dark velvet fabric...
