About the Item

Gianni Pareschi is an Italian industrial designer of the post-war period, whose work is synonymous with the aesthetic shifts in mid-century design. Working to the mantra that ‘Quality is forever’, his successful international career is ongoing, and many of his pieces belong in museum collections. Pareschi was one of numerous artists who was influenced by new radical expressions in art, politics and youth culture, encouraged to experiment with forms, symbols and connotations. In the late 1960s, he was part of Gruppo G14 alongside Umberto Orsoni and Gianfranco Fachetti, among others, and while most of their designs remained as prototypes, Pareschi’s later eye-catching designs reflect their influence. He later worked on the reorganisation of the ADI (Association of Industrial Design), helping to reshape the principles of design theory following his involvement during this period. The 1970s saw Pareschi achieve success with his armchairs – Fiocco, Libro and Armadillo – characterised by unusual structural systems and now part of the collection at MoMA. He later co-founded the GP&CO studio in 1984 where he continues to work on industrial and domestic design projects, together with his son Mattia. This piece is in great vintage condition, consistent with age and use. Original fabric. Please contact us for more information.
