Jordan Mozer for Disney Quest Aluminum Armillary Chairs Set, Fully Restored

About the Item

We're certain you won't find a more sublime example of these chairs anywhere. Even if you climbed into a time machine and stole a pair of Armillary chairs from Disney Quest in 1995, you would have to settle for the original, unflattering burgundy vinyl and fabric. Our restoration team collaborated to restore these gems to like-new condition with the un-debatable improvement of black leather seats and black fabric backs. We mimicked the contrast to match the original. The new upholstery compliments the sinister aluminum frame beautifully. Rest assured, these are unlike the typical quick flip "original condition" versions that pop up every once in a while. First and foremost, we had to remove 3 layers of seat back fabric that the good people at Disney wrapped and tacked so many times that the cushions changed from their intended shape and tailoring. Once we got down to the first layer we matched the exact stitch and welt patterns. We also had to replace several missing and damaged threaded inserts that had been compromised from all the sloppy and hasty unbolting and re-bolting from the years of re-wraps. The profiles are now as were intended. Sculpted and elegant. The aluminum frames have been hand polished and most of the original bolts that held the cushions on have been replaced. Finally, we replaced all the feet with sets that are identical to the originals. Created for Chicago's Disney Quest in 1995, these "Armillry Chairs" are a stunning contribution to the world of the design. Crafted from the genius of Jodan Mozer, these solid aluminum chairs look like they jumped off the screen from a Ridley Scott film. Rarely do we see such a thoughtful blend of modern design and sinister sci-fi inspiration. The anthropomorphic spine-like back support, replete with vertebrae, has a generous curve that makes a bold statement about the spirit of the chair.

Vintage Witco Tiki King Throne Hand-Carved Highback Chairs in Faux Leopard Fur
By Witco, William Westenhaver / Witco
Located in Chattanooga, TN
Take a walk on the wild side, or maybe just have a seat there with scepter in hand. Each chair has been recovered in high-quality, cruelty free, faux-fur that very much resembles the look and feel of leopard fur. Adorned top to bottom with hand-carved intricate detail. These highly collectible and hard to find thrown chairs were born of the jet-set era. The 1960s was the golden age of air travel and Americans were absolutely fascinated with “Exotica.” Ephemera from exotic tropical lands around South Asia were all the rage and gave birth to an explosion of tiki motifs in popular American culture. This project was a complete tear-down and rebuild. Every section was unbolted and individually restored. This sinuous, dark cedar has been painstakingly detailed by our in-house restoration team to both preserve the patina and address any imperfections in the wood. Lightly recolored and clear-coated to accentuate and preserve the character. The seats and backs were professionally reupholstered, and the results speak for themselves. We're more than certain these will exceed expectations. Robert Post Junior and Artist William Westenhaver Created Witco in 1959. The two capitalized on the exotica trend by creating lavishly bold, roughly carved wood furniture and decor. The delightfully dramatic furniture was so beloved during the period that Elvis created an entire “Jungle Room” in his Graceland home featuring Witco furniture! Witco remains a mainstay among collectors today. You can even see original Witco pieces still in use at Graceland, and other iconic tiki venues like Polynesian Gardens, the Hawaiian Inn, and the Aku Tiki Inn all located in Florida. We have other Witco items available including a pair of these conquistador chairs with arms, Witco cat...
