About the Item

Adrien Audoux & Frida Minet for Vibo, Pair of Armchairs, France, 1950s Stained Beech Frame with Handwoven Abaca Hemp Seating A refined pair of armchairs designed by the celebrated French duo Adrien Audoux and Frida Minet, produced by Vibo in Marseille during the 1950s. Their work epitomises rustic modernism, blending artisanal craftsmanship with mid-century lines. These chairs are a quintessential expression of their Mediterranean-inspired design language, perfectly suited to bohemian, wabi-sabi, Ibiza chic, and Japandi interiors. The frames are made from warm, stained beechwood, providing a subtle, natural backdrop to the textured beauty of the handwoven abaca hemp seat and backrest. The weave, made from fibres of the abaca plant (a banana species), creates a tactile surface that contrasts beautifully with the smooth, linear wood structure. In full original and correct vintage condition, the wood has not been restored and shows a gorgeous, even colour with a superb natural patina that only decades of careful use can produce. The seating is firm yet comfortable, with the weave retaining its integrity and charm. An exemplary and highly collectible set from Audoux-Minet’s oeuvre, these chairs embody timeless elegance and craftsmanship, blending effortlessly into contemporary or vintage-inspired spaces.
