OK… Grab your elephant and let’s go for a RIDE!! LOL… ok, most people probably don’t actually have a pet elephant BUT… that shouldn’t detour you from owning a PHENOMENAL hand carved elephant saddle chair or Howdah chair from Bangkok, Thailand!! It is comprised of stunning Rosewood embellished with complexly carved floral motif on the sides of the arms, across the top bar of the back splat, and around the base of the seat. Oh, did you notice? Just take another look at the base of the chair and you will notice that it is carved to resemble an elephant! Highly sculpted elephant ears on each side, a headdress in the center, and the leg supports are carved in a V shape connected with a stretcher baring cross supports which mimic the elephant ears! PHENOMENAL!! Elephants are considered a sacred animal in Thailand and these seats were used most often in the past to carry wealthy people during progresses or processions. It was also a symbol of wealth for the owner and as a result might be elaborately decorated sometimes with expensive gemstones. Its quintessential Chinoiserie style is going to make a BOLD statement in any room whether the in a corner of your bedroom, in the study across from the fireplace, in the entry way, or as an accent chair in the living room. There are so many fun possibilities with this chair and its breathtaking details are undeniably incredible. You deserve to be treated like royalty, so what are you waiting for? Make it YOURS!!!!

Black Torsion Chairs by Giancarlo Piretti for Ki Set of Eight
By KI Krueger International, Giancarlo Piretti
Located in Topeka, KS
Excellent set of eight black Torsion dining chairs designed by Giancarlo Piretti for KI. There are seven arm chairs and one side chair. They are in wonderful vintage condition with minor wear that you would expect with age. Please see photos, circa 1995.
In 1997 Giancarlo Piretti received an award for his Torsion seating collection. These chairs are part of that collection. Designed and made initially and primarily for commercial purpose they are extremely comfortable and flexible. They are lightweight and stackable. This set has an attractive textured high impact black plastic seat, back, and arms on chrome legs. No one expects this chair have the comfort it provides. The back flexes. This flex is achieved with the torsion mechanism which creates gradually increasing resistance. They were designed for comfort during long meetings or lectures. But, that makes them perfect for long dinners with lots of conversation. Or, family night with puzzles, cards, and games.
The designer, Giancarlo Piretti, was born in Bologna Italy in 1940. He attended art schools there and subsequently taught Interior Design. During that time, he was also designing furniture for Anonima Castelli. He has won numerous awards and has items in many museums including MoMA New York. He still lives and works in Bologna with is son, designer Alessandro Piretti.
KI was founded in 1941 as Krueger Metal Products, Inc. in Aurora, Illinois. Being innovative by finding ways to use scrap metal...
