German Jugendstil Sofa by Hermann Münchhausen around 1910

About the Item

This stunning Jugendstil sofa, designed by the German architect and designer Hermann Münchhausen around 1910, is a true testament to the elegance and craftsmanship of the era. Created by Dittmar's Möbelfabrik in Berlin, the sofa was part of a complete interior design that was showcased in the 1910 edition of *Die Innendekoration*. What sets this piece apart is its remarkable preservation in its original condition, particularly the upholstery fabric, which features the iconic "Bird Weave" pattern by William Morris for Liberty of London. The intricate bird motif, woven into the luxurious fabric, adds a layer of artistry to this already extraordinary piece. The frame of the sofa is constructed from solid birch, with flamed birch veneer, creating a unique and visually striking appearance. The ebonized wood marquetry and floral ornaments on the armrests further enhance its charm and elegance. Beneath the surface, the sofa features traditional laced spring upholstery, with horsehair and cotton wadding providing comfort and support. With its combination of fine materials, detailed craftsmanship, and a timeless design, this sofa is an exquisite example of Art Nouveau at its finest.
