Modular Sofa by Jorge Zalszupin in Hardwood, Steel and Fabric, Brazil, 1960's

About the Item

This modular sofa by Jorge Zalszupin, designed in the 1960s-1970s, is a standout piece thanks to its innovative use of contrasting materials. The combination of wood, steel, and fabric reflects Zalszupin's mastery of blending industrial and organic elements. The sleek metal frame pairs beautifully with the warm wooden legs and olive-green upholstery, while integrated side tables with wooden frames and white inlays add both practicality and visual appeal. The legs of the sofa are particularly striking, showcasing a unique contrast between the aged, slightly rusted steel components and the rich, dark wood. This interplay of textures creates a sculptural quality that enhances the overall design. A unique feature of this piece is its adaptable seating units. The chairs are not fixed and can be lifted and rotated to face either direction, allowing for a dynamic setup that adapts to your space or needs. Additionally, the magazine holder at the end of the structure can be completed in-house with a custom leather insert, restoring its full functionality and charm.

Corner Sofa Blond Wood and Fabric, Italy, 1950's
By Ico Parisi

Corner sofa in blond wood and fabric,, Italy, 1950's What stands out most in this low corner bench are the recesses in the framework and the 9 straight, tapered, squared stiletto legs that are so typical for that period in Italy. As you can see the backrest is optional and was probably designed later to give it some extra comfort. Back in the days these sofas were mostly used for very practical purposes like a quick coffee or pasta. This sofa would work very well in a corner of course but strangely enough this rectangular sofa also works very well in the middle of a room for example with a round table and two chairs...
