Vintage Ghanaian Ashanti 'Wisdom Knot' Stool

$3,200

About

Vintage Ashanti cedar 'Wisdom Knot' stool, handcrafted in Ghana. The stool is intricately carved from a single piece of wood and features Adinkra symbolism representing Ghanaian lore. The central symbol depicted is Nyansapo, the Wisdom Knot, an especially revered symbol of the Akan embracing knowledge, learning, experience and patience. Only the wise can untie it, so the Ashanti stool is traditionally reserved for authority figures such as a chief. This fabulous artifact beautifully embodies Ghanaian cultural heritage, rich history and craftsmanship.
