Late 19th Century Brasserie Buffet Signed Jacob Josef Kohn, 1890s

About the Item

Spectacular and original late 19th century carved walnut Veneer Brasserie buffet double parts signed Jacob Josef Kohn from the 1890s. Open with six doors and two drawers. Carved raw wood panels. Red and white marble top (broken in the middle but easy to pick on the spot. Jacob Kohn founded in 1849 the company, initially specialized in timber. In 1867, he joined forces with his son Josef Kohn and directed the company towards furniture. The expiry of the Thonet Brothers patent on curved wood technology allows them to soon offer their own range of products. With branches in Berlin, Paris, London and Hamburg, Kohn becomes from 1882 one of the leading furniture manufacturers in Austria-Hungary and is listed as one of the main competitors of the company Thonet.
