Striking mid-18th century Dutch Colonial chest, handcrafted in colonial Ceylon (modern-day Sri Lanka) during the height of the Spice Trade. Built from solid rosewood and adorned with original brass and copper mounts, this piece carries the weight, patina, and presence of centuries. It stands on four hand-carved feet and opens to a spacious interior storage compartment, with two functional drawers along the bottom for added utility. Likely owned by a well-traveled merchant of the Dutch East India Company, this chest would have journeyed between South Asia and Europe.
