About the Item

A beautiful antique eight-panel English coffer or trunk, dating to the William III period in the early 1700s. The piece has recessed panels with molded edges around them. The piece is decorated with geometrical carvings on its front. The coffer rests on a convex-concave sawm plinth. The interior has a candle box, a compartment closed by a lid that can also be used to hold the lid of the coffer in an upright position. The chest has the original lock, key, and hinges. It was made in the finest quality oak and it has a beautiful warm brown color with a deep gloss. The coffer has built up a great patina over the many years.

  • Condition:
    Repaired: The plinth and bottom part of the lid are of later date. These coffers were moved around a lot. It is common for a coffer to have these repairs. This was repaired e few decades ago, but were carried out in good manner. Wear consistent with age and use. The coffer was gently cleaned inside and out and a new protective wax layer was applied. The piece is ready for use.
