Early 18th Century Carved Oak Dutch Maids Chest

About the Item

This solid oak carved chest was made in circa 1720 and originated in the Netherlands. It is made in Rebaissance style and it has the typical elevated panels in the front section. The front has beautiful geometric carvings. It has the original lock and key, side handles and hinges. On the inside, there is a small shelf and a compartment at the side. This chest is a maids chest and was given by the parents to their daughter when she went out to go and work for her first employer. In that matter it resembles the nowadays suitcase. This chest is of high quality and it was commissioned by a prosperous family. The chest has undergone minor restoration and is fully checked and a new layer of wax is applied to give it a beautiful soft shine.
