Antique 18th Century Black Carved Oak Dutch Renaissance Chest

About the Item

This beautiful black colored Renaissance chest or coffer was made in the early 18th century. It was made in the finest quality summer oak and stained very dark, almost black. The front of the piece has four panels with handsome carved circular decoration. The entire front of the chest has elaborate geometric carvings. The coffer retains its original hinges, lock, key, and key plate. The interior shows the dark bare oakwood and has two interior storage boxes with a lid. With the lids of these boxes in an upright position, the lid of the chest can be fixed in an upright position. The coffer was used to store and protect a household’s Fine linens, clothing, and valuables. It is in wonderful condition with great patina. Condition details: The chest was gently cleaned in our workshop. A new spring was installed in the lock. A new protective wax coat was applied. The piece is fully authentic except for the bottom, that is, an older restoration from a few decades back. Great piece.
