Central European Painted Blanket Chest
About the Item
Central European painted blanket chest , the sides are painted a solid dark brown with a serpentine shape cut out at the bottom; the front and top each feature three panels of stylized flowers and foliate, front is dated ''1927''; open interior with original candle box and lid( note the painter secured the knots in the pine with dabs of a yellowish coating on the interior, we have owned several of these chests over the years and have seen this technique many times, it should not be alarming)
The lower portion of the chest is surrounded with a wide molding and the front bracket feet also are painted with flowers. This chest is in remarkable condition, especially the top which normally will show extensive wear, in this case has no loss to make note of.
