19th Century French Art Nouveau Period Bookcase

About the Item

19th Century French Art Nouveau Period Bookcase shows an intriguing touch of flair that foretells the more enthusiastic stylings yet to come. The interesting roundel on each cabinet door is created with relief molding with a stylized foliate motif, and a bombe center to the work. What immediately catches the eye are the unusual hinges and lockworks in bronze, elaborately styled and mounted. The upper tier sports generously glazed panes allowing one unfettered visual access, with doors that open wide to allow placement and retrieval, with three adjustable shelves and one floor for plenty of display or storage surface. A convenient pull-out surface separates the top tier from the bottom, and the lower tier features a cavernous interior accessed via the aforementioned cabinets, creating functionality that cannot be denied. Note the special architectural details on the upper corners, including flared foliate motifs that became common during the Art Nouveau period.
