Antique 2 Piece English Burl Bookcase Cabinet - Circa 1730 -1750 For Restoration

About the Item

This Cabinet requires restoration. An antique English bookcase cabinet in two parts, George I or William & Mary, circa 1730 - 1750 with two beveled mirrored doors, adjustable shelving, brass escutcheons. The lower cabinet with two candle trays above the drop down door. The door reveals fitted interior with cubbies, drawers and a secret compartment. The cabinet with two over three drawers, adorned with brass hardware and resting on bun feet. Dimensions: 39 1/4' W, 22" D and 80" H Condition: Restoration required. Signs of age include losses to trim (several loose pieces are included), wear to the leather top, key lacking, some loose and stable separating joinery overall consistent with a cabinet near 300 years old. An extraordinary historical English piece that will be greatly enhanced with restoration. The photos are part of the description. Additional photos upon request.

GEORGE III MAHOGANY DIMINUTIVE SECRETARY WITH BOOKCASE England, circa 1780 Item # 307PZN13W A very fine secretary desk of diminutive proportions, this fabulous form features an upper bookcase with a cove-molded cornice over a pair of glazed doors with eight panels each, these divided with original astragal moldings, opening to reveal an adjustable three-shelf space bookcase. The doors are beautifully embellished with fluted pilasters boasting Ionic capitals that are exquisitely detailed with rich undercutting. The lower case features a brushing slide situated over five rows of graduated drawers, the second from the top cleverly fitted with a green baize writing surface that pushes back to reveal storage space beneath while the faceted glass inkwell bottles (one missing the lid) and double trough pen tray are situated along the right side. The timbers selected for the case are above reproach and present with a ruby hue throughout that is incredibly appealing, this finished under a glowing silky French polish to the mahogany veneers throughout.
