Børge Mogensen Danish Mid-Century Modern Oak Bookcase Cabinet Over Dresser

About the Item

Børge Mogensen Danish Mid-Century Modern Oak Bookcase Cabinet Over Dresser Item # 904VPK13Z An incredibly striking bookcase cabinet from the third quarter of the 20th century, the form is a well documented design by Børge Mogensen with his iconic sculpted oak pulls set in tapered wells. Crafted with a rich and beautifully patinated oak both in solid woods and veneers, it is bleached to a delightful golden blonde surface appearance throughout. Unlike many midcentury counterparts, the works designed by Børge Mogensen and executed by the firm of Karl Andersson & Söner showed traditional attention to detail in all elements, using solid wood core beneath the veneers, employing full dovetailing of the drawers, utilizing tenon-mortise joinery in the bookcase doors and designing the traditional drawer supports that utilize grooves in the wood instead of metal hardware to allow the drawers to smoothly move in the case. The result is a form that lasts the test of time and looks nearly new despite more than half a century of use. Attention to detail in the engineering is no less admirable with patinated steel supports set at angles between the oak legs and the underside of the case, negating the need for stretchers while still maintaining full angular support. The upper bookcase retains an original label for Karl Andersson & Söner. Measurements: 33“ H x 53“ W x 14 1/4“ D [upper]; 33“ H x 53“ W x 21 1/2“ D [lower]; total height 66“ Condition report: Good original condition with a nicely patinated early surface; small veneer losses, including the bottom edge of one drawer and chipping at corners/edges. Minor scuffs, scratches and blemishes as expected. Note: while there is a color difference between the legs and the case in the upper and lower, the color profile is accentuated and incorrect due to poor lighting in the photography. Large Art Deco Cerused Oak Display Cabinet Bookcase circa 1940
Located in Shippensburg, PA
ART DECO CERUSED AND EBONIZED OAK DISPLAY CABINET WITH FLANKING BLIND BOOKSHELVES Probably German, as the locks are of German origin executed circa 1940 with chromed steel accents throughout Item # 401QGP02S A fabulous Art Deco era display cabinet, the substantial case piece features a glazed central door flanked by two blind-doors on either side. These open to reveal an adjustably shelved interior, the oak bars on the side allowing the 3/8" thick glass shelves to be flexibly changed to suit the books stored within. The central door features a chromed rim around the glass door that cohesively ties in with the chrome-plated keyhole escutcheons and the chrome base molding on the bottom of the cabinet. It was probably made in Germany, as one of the locks bears markings of German manufacture, though the craftsman may have simply had a preference for this locking mechanism and imported it. Note the high-grade of cabinet work throughout - all surfaces have been carefully veneered with a cerused and ebonized oak, the interior of the center display area with a red-stained cerused oak and the interior of each flanking cabinet space lined with mahogany veneers. Importantly, despite the incredibly spacious proportions, the entire cabinet can be disassembled for safe transport. The top is removed with bolts on the inside corners...
