About the Item

Elegant Early Victorian Mahogany Secretaire Bookcase (c.1840) Item Code: 1008A A fine example of early Victorian craftsmanship, this stunning two-part mahogany secretaire bookcase combines timeless elegance with practical design. The upper section features two glazed doors with elegant gothic arched astragals, enclosing three adjustable shelves, ideal for displaying books, porcelain, or curios. The mahogany has aged beautifully, with a rich patina enhancing its depth and grain. Below, the secretaire drawer drops open to reveal a fully fitted interior with a green baize writing surface, small drawers with turned knobs, and charming pigeonholes—perfectly suited for organising stationery, correspondence, or keepsakes. The lower cabinet, comprising a pair of paneled doors, opens to reveal generous storage space, ideal for discreetly tucking away household items or office essentials. Raised on turned bun feet and complete with turned handles and locks, this piece showcases the quality and refinement of mid-19th century English furniture.
