About the Item

A timeless and elegant look, this Gothic style bookcase uses arches in its construction to create stunning beauty! Crafted in England circa 1960, this piece is sure to add a unique flair to any room or office. The wood used in its construction is mahogany. A gorgeous, wispy flame mahogany is used on the lower cabinet doors and the drawer fronts to great effect. The three glass doors feature Gothic arched fretwork. These can also be known as cathedral arches. All of these details (the wood and arches) subtly combine to form a really beautiful piece of furniture. Each section of the upper part houses three adjustable shelves (nine shelves total). They use a pin and hole system for adjusting. All doors on the piece lock and a key is included. A row of drawers can be found in the middle which provide this Gothic style bookcase with additional storage. Each drawer is dovetailed and has a single brass lion head handle. Inside the lower doors, each section has one removable shelf inside. The middle and right doors open to the same, large area. These lower doors have a beaded molding which frames the mahogany without detracting from it. The overall condition of this piece is very good. The entire bookshelf has sustained very small wear marks (dings) here and there which can be seen when you are very close to the piece. Some of these marks seem like intentional distressing by the maker. The counter where the top and bottom sections meet has some minor scratches as well. Overall all of the moving parts work well and this cabinet is very sturdy. The shelf depth is 11.25? and it does break down into two pieces (top and bottom) for easier moving.
