French 19th Century Napoleon III Period Ebony & Tortoiseshell Étagère Bookcase

About the Item

An exceptional French 19th century Napoleon III period Ebony, stained Pine, brass, ormolu and Tortoiseshell étagère bookcase. The bookcase is raised by a straight base with a beautiful central ormolu plaque of a richly chased seashell amidst fine scrolled foliate movements below a mottled brass fillet. The straight sides are decorated with elegant finely detailed foliate ormolu mounts with charming blooming flowers set on striking Tortoiseshell also repeated at the front of the three adjustable stained Pine wood shelves with delicate inlaid fillets and an upholstered background. The sides showcase striking central ormolu block rosettes with corner seashell and foliate reserves framed within a delicate brass fillet. Above a beautiful Tortoiseshell and mottled brass band is the Ebony top showcasing the beautiful wood grain.
