Italian Gothic Revival Monumental Sideboard Wood Plastic & Large Gilded Mirror

About the Item

Stunning 1960’s Italian Gothic Revival wood and plastic accent buffet or sideboard with plastic barley twist legs, plastic gothic door front details, adjustable wood shelf behind the double doors on each side, brass skeleton keys, five center drawers bearing large round pulls, and an extra-large rectangular glided trim mirror. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Specifically, there was a dent on front edge of cabinet that has been filled and colored and there is some fading to the plastic medallions, the 2 on the right are a bit lighter than the 2 on the left. Please see photos, zoom in for details, and see long description as they are part of the condition report. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, 1960’s. What a MONSTROSITY of MAGNIFICENZA!!!!! (Magnificence!) Simply put… Yes, this piece is JUST that and is comprised of a frame masterfully composed of both a phenomenal wood toned plastic or wood composite, brass, wood, and it’s topped with a Colossal extra-large rectangular mirror with a sculpted, gilded trim. The sixties was a strong decade bringing unforgotten moments in time such as the Kennedy Assasination, Martin Luther King delivers his “I Have a Dream” speech, Man Lands on the Moon, BEATLEMANIA… Oh ya, AND “Plastic” was the absolute IN thing to use on home furnishings!! That’s right! Especially plastic as high quality and durable as is composed in this incredible Italian piece. There’s a fun story that accompanies this piece as we were able to meet the previous owners that purchased this beauty (along with other pieces) while stationed in the military in ITALY in the 60’s! When they moved back to the United States, this beauty came back too. And not to brag BUT… my father-in-law (who has been in the vintage furniture, design, and building custom furnishings business for well more than half of his life… and that folks, is a LOOOOONG time!!) commented that this is probably one of the “highest quality pieces” we have EVER had to offer! That’s a big deal people!! You wouldn’t want to hear some of the OTHER things he says!! LOL!!!! This incredible sideboard bears five center drawers bearing beautiful large round pulls, four decorative gothic crosses on each door front with inner door astragals and skeleton keys with a heart detail, barley twist legs on the sides, and round decorative feet. The inner astragals bear a feature where the doors must open & close simultaneously WHILE also using the skeleton key. It is a beautifully crafted, highly functional piece of furniture and it is going to be incredible in your family room or living room, in your dining area, down a LONG hall, as a dresser & mirror combo in your bedroom, or in the study, home office, or den. At 109 inches long, it’s a BEAST folks! A Big…Beautiful BEAST and possibilities are as endless as your imagination. It has adequate storage, it is versatile, useful, and it bears a quintessential Italian Gothic Revival style you are sure to love for years to come. What are you waiting for? Just say “SI” and make it YOURS!!!!!! MCM 2-Piece China Hutch Cabinet Buffet by Heywood Wakefield Contessa Collection
By Heywood-Wakefield Co.
Located in Topeka, KS
Mid-Century Modern 2-piece china hutch, cabinet, or buffet by Heywood Wakefield for the Contessa Collection. Comprised of 2-pieces a top hutch & a bottom buffet in a dark cherrywood, woven wicker basket weave or caned door fronts, brass toned pulls, & slim steel legs. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that these are vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. There are nicks on the left side of the buffet edge toward the front. Stiffener has been added underneath buffet as the cabinet had sagged in the middle making doors uneven. Stiffener corrected that issue. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, 1960’s. In 1959, the Heywood Wakefield “Contessa” slogan was "Wood for warmth and grace ... steel for strength and rigidity." "Furniture of Slender Elegance." And does this China cabinet ever fit that description. The Contessa line features a darker cherrywood, gold or brass toned accents, and slim steel legs. This cabinet has 2 pieces. A bottom buffet that features brass toned pulls that open two sets of double doors. There are three drawers on the right side with a silverware tray in the top drawer. The left side is open storage. The top hutch features two rolling side doors with woven wicker basket weave, or caned, door fronts and three shelves in the center. The whole cabinet stands on slim steel legs and exudes mid-century modern magnificence! This awesome, versatile china cabinet or buffet will look amazing whether you place it in the dining room, living room, study, or the kitchen. It is adaptable enough to blend right in whether your design style leans to Mid-Century Modern, Scandinavian Modern, industrial, southwestern, or modern country. In 1897, two prominent furniture companies, Heywood Brothers and Wakefield Company merged and created Heywood Brothers & Wakefield Company; the name would be shortened to Heywood-Wakefield in 1921. The new company rose to popularity in the 1930s, 40s, and 50s with its solid wood, Art Deco-inspired, mid-century modern furniture. In 1992, South Beach Furniture Company acquired the rights to the Heywood-Wakefield name. After realizing how in demand vintage Heywood Wakefield pieces were, production began on new pieces that remained true to the style, quality, and values of the original company. Today's Heywood-Wakefield is dedicated to preserving the legacy of the name and its famous pieces while incorporating new and contemporary technology which allows new generations to appreciate the classic looks from a classic company. This is a fabulous piece by Heywood Wakefield’s Contessa...
