About the Item

18th Century Dutch Cabinet in Stripped Oak with Wrought Iron is a charming artifact from a bygone era, when items of particular value to the lord or lady of the home would be stored under lock and key in a special cabinet. Items could be jewelry, tobacco, tea and the like. They were secured via hand-forged iron strap hinges, a hand-built lock and a fanciful lockplate for decorative purposes. The entire casework was constructed of old-growth oak which has achieved a lovely patina over the centuries, which we have retained via our proprietary stripping process. Solid planks on the top are supported by stout beams used as columns and crosspieces, with planed oak panels on the sides and lower shelf, and hand-chamfered panels on the back side. A simple beveled edge was applied to remove splinters and sharp edges. Truly a charming way to decorate in timeless style, with the added benefit of two display surfaces and storage within!
