About the Item

A beautiful late 18th century cabinet in the best quality solid oak. This is a typical 'kussenkast' or pillow cabinet. Pillow refers to the shape of the raised panels on the doors. It is a showcase for the craftsmanship of its creator and the wealth of the principal. These types of cabinets were usually located in the reception or the salon of a house to impress all those who saw it. The cabinet has two doors and a wide drawer underneath. It stands on two solid ebonized bunfeet. The doors feature elevated ebonized panels. The stiles are decorated with diamond shaped ornaments and ebonized panels. The keyhole can be hidden by sliding a diamond shaped ornament in front of it. The cabinet has a detachable top. On the interior there are two and a half fixed shelfs. All hardware is original this cabinet has been carefully restored at our workshop and is now ready for use. It would also add extra warmth to an austere interior with its simple design.
