A French 19th century Louis XVI st Ormolu Mahogany Rosso Levanto marble cabinet

About the Item

A stunning and exceptional quality French 19th century Louis XVI st. Ormolu, Mahogany, and Rosso Levanto marble cabinet, signed by P. Sormani. This eye catching single door cabinet is raised by four topie shaped mahogany feet accented by slender Ormolu acanthus leaf sabots and a mottled top cap below block reserves adorned with beautiful richly chased pierced scrolled foliate Ormolu mounts. Impressive Ormolu fluted columns containing foliate decorated plinths and capitals flanking the central door. The reserves on each of the columns are decorated by an urn shaped mounts displaying spiral fluted designs that are supported on foliate accented pawed feet. The door displays a recessed panel with protruding corners adorned with a superb richly chased central Ormolu plaque of an urn of prosperity surrounded by intricately details foliate and scrolling designs, swaging floral garlands, and two cherubs joyously playing instruments. The plaque is framed within an Ormolu band designed with a Coeur-de-Rai pattern and a foliate decorated Ormolu keyhole escutcheon. The door opens to reveal one adjustable shelf and all the original hardware with the Sormani signature on the inside of the door. The two side panels have smooth finishes within their recessed panels edged with Ormolu Coeur-de-Rai designs similar to the edges on the front panel. Above the door is a stepped decorative panel tastefully designed by berried laurel vines and wonderfully scrolled acanthus leaves which are flanked by fluted blocks on each corner accented by foliate chandelles within. Each side panel above the larger scaled panels below are decorated similarly with the array of foliate designs and tied ribbons throughout. The original Rosso Levanto marble top is fitted above a mottled Mahogany plate while being supported by a mottled Ormolu mount below.
