About the Item
A magnificent and extremely high quality French 19th century Louis XVI st. Mahogany, ormolu Commode à Porte, after a model by Joseph Stöckel and Guillaume Benneman. This one door demi lune shaped chest is raised by four most impressive richly chased ormolu paw feet below fine rosettes and beaded foliate bands. The central door is decorated with a striking pierced rosette in a rich satin and burnished finish framed within beaded, mottled, foliate and fluted ormolu bands and which open to reveal two shelves and original hardware. The curved sides showcase the beautiful Mahogany grain framed within beaded and fluted wrap around ormolu bands. Exquisite richly chased swaging blooming flower and ripe fruit garlands extend along the top tied with charming ribbons with unique heart reserves. Above is the original Vert Maurin marble top with a fine mottled border.
