French 19th Century Louis XVI St. Mahogany, Ormolu And Lumachella Marble Commode
About the Item
A most elegant and high quality French 19th century Louis XVI st. Mahogany, Ormolu and Lumachella marble commode. This beautifully designed "D" shaped commode is supported by four circular fluted tapered legs ending with inverted bell shaped Ormolu sabots and a top beaded Ormolu band. Above at the center front are three drawers tastefully designed with rectangular recessed panels which are framed within Ormolu beaded trims and decorated by richly chased Ormolu keyhole escutcheons. The drawers are flanked by fluted columns with fine Ormolu chandelles above the legs and foliate garland shaped chandelles at the top. At each side are curved doors with the same elegant Ormolu beaded trims and tied ribbon keyhole escutcheons. Above and below the pierced gallery is a richly detailed draped fabric band with the gallery surrounding the fitted Lumachella marble on three sides and following the shape of the commode. Wonderful proportions and high quality throughout.
