About the Item

This is a storage furniture used in the countryside of Japan. The main material is cedar, and it was used in the Tohoku region. It was probably made as storage furniture for grains and other things. It has a simple shape, but an unusual construction that is not often seen. There are three wooden doors on the front, which can be removed by sliding them up along the grooves on both sides. The removed boards can also be used as shelves. The soot from the hearth has turned it a natural black color, and with the addition of aging, it has changed to a natural texture. The matte black blends with the peeled paint, and is as beautiful as a work of art. The simple design, which eliminates unnecessary decoration, is ideal as a sideboard or display stand to highlight the items you display. The Korean bandaji is very famous, but this design can be said to be the Japanese version of bandaji. It symbolizes the Japanese wabi-sabi culture and brings tranquility and harmony to the space.
