About the Item
17th Century, Italian Baroque Walnut Chest of Drawers
This chest of drawers was made in Lombardy in the Baroque period at the end of the seventeenth century. The wooden structure is in solid walnut, veneered and inlaid with walnut briar and soft woods on the front of the four drawers. The top of the cabinet and the base are slightly projecting, supported by front uprights at 45 degrees, carved to simulate two pilasters, lacquered and decorated with engravings in vegetable style. Below the frame of the plan, on the front and on the sides, runs the perimeter a band called “lambrecchini”, or a dense sequence of trilobate elements, characteristic of the Lombardy area. The sides are decorated with carvings and geometric frames of darker color. The feet, also dark, are cantilever and projecting. The state of conservation is good; some shortcomings and small defects are reported.
The dresser can be placed in different environments such as studios, living rooms, dining rooms and rooms, combined with antique and modern furnishings.
