About the Item

A very good antique Italian baroque walnut cabinet, Tuscany, circa 1680. The cabinet had been part of the M.H. de Young Memorial Museum San Francisco (now The de Young Museum), and was the property of Ms. Lee Eleanor Graham a San Francisco socialite & decorator in the 1920s. Lee Eleanor Graham was the wife of the oil magnate William Miller Graham who in 1902 had commissioned the building of "Bellosguardo" (Beautiful Lookout) an Italianate mansion in Santa Barbara California, now known as the Bellosguardo Foundation. The house had been rented from the Grahams by Frederick & Louise Vanderbilt in 1915. This cabinet had been part of the furnishings of this very grand mansion in 1902, to the inside of the drawers and doors are Lee Eleanor Graham's fabric property labels. The cabinet of large size at 80" long & 49.25 tall, the top of the cabinet is fitted with four drawers each with a raised panels and the original circular polished bronze pulls. The base having four fielded panel doors, the two outside doors of a canted position and correspond to the drawers above, the sides and middle of the cabinet are decorated with raised panels. The credenza is raised on bracket feet, the interior of the doors having hand-forged iron strap hinges, the secondary woods are all white pine. To the inside of one of the drawers is the exhibition label from the M.H. de Young Memorial Museum, dating to the early 1920s. The cabinet had been the property of Mrs Lee Eleanor Graham who was at this time resident at the Saint Francis Hotel in San Francisco. The cabinet is in very good condition and was made in Tuscany in central Italy during the late 1600s, it has just been waxed in Bloomsbury's professional workshops and has a warm mellow honey colored patina. This wonderful cabinet is around 350 years old and is ready to grace your home.

Handsome 18th Century Italian Carved-Walnut Credenza Cabinet
Located in Atlanta, GA
An Italian carved walnut wood buffet credenza from the 18th century. This antique sideboard from Italy features rich walnut wood which has been carved with raised decorative cartouche plaques, in varying designs, about the front face. This piece has a rectangular-shaped top which slightly overhangs the case that is fitted with three small drawers set horizontally above a pair of doors at bottom (which open to a shelf on the inside, maximizing the storage potential of this piece). This chest is presented upon a pair of rail legs at either end with accolade carved skirt, turning to bracket-style front feet, and a single shapely carved foot/brace at front center of skirt that adds just enough lift/space between the case and the floor. The dark, rich wood has a wonderful old patina throughout; a showing of its centuries old age. Note that there have been prior repairs at the side and there is a slight bowing at top. Please refer to the additional images for further detail on the piece. This fabulous 18th century Italian walnut cabinet...
