About the Item

Elegant Venetian three-drawer canter, made in the 18th century. The cabinet has a solid solid wood frame, with ebonized wood sides and top, while the drawer fronts are veneered in a fine walnut burl with a rich and lively grain. Of particular note are the bronze handles, finely crafted with a pattern of opposing mermaids, a clear reference to the decorative aesthetic typical of the lagoon tradition. The vents are also contemporary and carefully chiseled. Despite some modifications over time, particularly to the top and lower legs, the original quality of the cabinet is still well preserved, especially in the briar and hardware. The dresser measures 100 cm wide, 52 cm deep and 94 cm high. Inside is a period handwritten label addressed to Count Giovanni Battista Viola, a figure probably linked to a historic eighteenth-century Venetian roasting company, an element that enriches the historical and documentary value of the piece.
