About the Item

Pier Luigi Colli ( 1895-1968) was an influential Italian designer known for his innovative and elegant furniture creations during the mid-20th century. Trained in Paris and active in Turin, Colli combined traditional craftsmanship with modernist sensibilities. He gained fame for his luxurious use of materials, especially hand-forged iron, glass, and richly detailed upholstery. Design Made from richly toned Indian rosewood, the piece features a symmetrical layout with three drawers on either side and two central cabinet doors. The front is adorned with vertical fluted carving—known as grissinatura—which gives the surface texture and rhythm. At the center, the veneered doors are framed with burlwood and inset with square blue glass panels. These panels are internally lit, casting a soft glow that contrasts with the dark wood and adds depth to the cabinet's façade. The geometric shaping continues through the angled profile and sculpted feet, all carved with precision. Handles are reduced to simple round forms, letting the woodwork remain the focal point. The insert panels in the front are most probably made by Paolo de Poli (Padua). It is enamel on copper with a blue glass covering. Condition The piece is in good vintage condition. Minor signs of use are consistent with age, and the interior lighting is functional. The surface has been restored while preserving its original finish. Literature 'Pier Luigi Colli - un industrial designer' - Davide Alaimo This book has multiple references to credenza's in the same style.
