French Provincial Walnut Desk / Commode with Drop Down Front
About the Item
A stunning French solid walnut commode with a fold-down secretary desk housed in its top drawer. The secretary is decorated with satinwood inlays throughout. The two drawer fronts have elegant brass pulls and decorative escutcheons. The top drawer/desk front keyhole is encircled with a matching escutcheon. Opening the writing desk gives you a view of symmetrical keyholes for letter/anything storage, with a larger center pigeonhole on top of 5 marching drawers with brass pulls. The writing surface can serve as a dry bar as well. . All drawers feature functioning locks; two keys are included. Hidden at the bottom of this piece is a large drawer, pulled open by placing A few minor repairs have been made to the wood, adding to its antique charm. Circa 1840’s.
