About the Item

A gorgeous, extremely impressive and very rare Georgian style Pot Board Dresser Base in wonderful condition. Made in the late 20th Century by high-end English furniture maker Alexander Theodore, this stunning dresser base, a magnificent modern take on a classic English antique, makes a wonderfully eye-catching sideboard, which won’t fail to add superb quality, beautifully rich, light colouring and a very strikingly distinguished and stylish look to any interior. Impressively sized, reassuringly heavy and made of solid cherry wood, this sideboard dresser base exudes quality craftsmanship throughout, as you’d expect from Theodore Alexander. A stunning piece to view from any angle, even from behind, the use of cherry wood is the most significant modern twist on the 300-year-old design. The rich golden-tan tones present a lighter and more vibrant quality than its antique forerunners, enabling this fabulous piece to be just as much at home in a modern interior as a period country house. A particularly large and impressive example, this sideboard dresser is the ideal statement piece for storage and display purposes and features a stunning three-plank top above four large drawers with charming metal handles over two sunken seven-plank lower shelves. Made in the traditional manor without glue or screws, the superb craftsmanship displayed throughout can be seen in the shapely four-sided carved upper and lower aprons, the lovely sunken side panels, the dovetail joined drawers, the six very impressive and sturdy turned leg supports and the attention to detail in the carved, layered and recessed bordering throughout. Pot boards were originally designed as dressers or cabinets to store pots and kitchen accessories and would often be used as bases for dressers, which would be placed on top with plates and crockery. This charmingly decorative and highly practical piece marries antique rustic sympathies with modern impactful tastes – the effect really works wonders and creates a superb sideboard for the modern furniture lover, which nods back to a rich design history. All in all this is a wonderfully attractive and highly practical sideboard dresser base, which will add beautiful colouring, superb quality, a real wow-factor and classical styling to even the most modern of settings. Extremely rare and likely from one of Theodore Alexander’s earliest pre-internet collections, we haven’t been able to find another example. CONDITION This is in very-good-to-excellent condition. Beautifully crafted, impressively sized, reassuringly heavy and structurally sound, it has only the most minor of marks to show its age. The Theodore Alexander emblem is affixed to the inside of one drawer. Overall it's a gorgeous rare sideboard dresser base in wonderful condition and if well looked after it should be just as eye-catching and practical for many generations to come – please see the photos. Fine Antique Carved Cabinet Chest of Drawers Chinese Altar Temple Commode 18th C
Located in London, GB
An exceptional, stunning and extremely rare Chinese carved chest of drawers in wonderful antique condition. Most likely made in Northern China in the late-18th/early-19th Century, this superbly decorative and versatile eight-drawer cabinet will add knockout wow-factor as well as gorgeous colouring, superb quality and bygone Oriental splendour to any interior. A great size for a versatile piece, whether it's used as a hallway console cabinet, a decorative living room storage piece, a dining buffet or a bedroom chest of drawers, this exceptional and historically significant commode will impress in any setting. It's strong Mongolian and Qing Dynasty influences point to this stunning piece being made in Shanxi Province in Northern China. Traditionally crafted from reassuringly heavy, solid and wonderfully hued Elm & Cypress woods, displaying beautiful nutty-golden hues and wonderfully aged patination, this knockout chest of drawers has extremely rare and showstopping raised-relief carvings to the eight drawers. This staggering chest of drawers would have originally had the dual-purpose uses of household/temple storage as well as its top being used as an altar for daily worship rituals. It would have been painted and there are traces of vibrant red paint still visible to the carved fronts of the drawers, with crimson lacquer still on display to the sides. It features a fabulously hefty, mottled-lacquered top with inlaid centre above panelled sides and back. Supported by substantial legs, it has decorative lower and side aprons and eight outstanding, chunky and ornately carved drawers, each carving with its own significance, and aged brass handles with petal mounts. It's very rare for an antique Chinese chest...
